Mid Thanksgiving report

So far so good.

C's boyfriend N accompanied me to pick up Diva. He and I have never had a lot of time alone to just talk. The trip to the loony bin is 1.5 hours, which we spent in enjoyable conversation. I find that conversations in the car seem to be most productive.

We retrieved the girl child and came home. She's grown recently. I nearly didn't recognize her when she came out of her dorm, a new hair-do being part of the camouflage. She looks pretty good, though the poor thing has a terrible acne outbreak. Her 13th birthday is in 9 days. Welcome to teenage-hood.

As soon as we got home I locked the doors to my bedroom and my office. Light locked the door to her room. And yes, we're keeping a close eye on her. She and Sproing are getting along famously! This makes my life easier.

Light is doing most of the cooking. Superman managed the pork loin. I helped cut up the bread for the stuffing. I wrote out the recipe for the stuffing for Light. It's a good thing she and I think so much alike, else she might not be able to use it at all. The recipe I wrote is more of a guideline, really. There are practically no measurements, and the spice list is open source, so to speak.

I am very tired. And hungry. It's 3:15 and I had no lunch. Neither did anyone else, of course. Dinner should be ready soon. That's been the response for the past hour, but from the sounds of things I think it really will be soon. After we eat and I make a half-hearted attempt to help clean up, my plan is to take a nap. Superman and someone will take Diva back to the loony bin.

That's about all I have for now, and Superman just came in to tell me that dinner is almost served.

Merry Thanksgiving to one and all, even the beloved Canadians who had their Thanksgiving weeks ago.

A non-update-y update

The fabric of my life is ... unraveling? Not exactly. Let's use the image of a quilt to represent my life. The actual fabric is stronger than it was a couple of years ago. I'm not quite as thoroughly crazy. However, the stitches holding the pieces together are weakening in a few places.

It's still very hot, but I see signs of better weather soon to come. Not as soon as I'd like, but soon nevertheless.

Sproing has been in school for two weeks, and it's not good. He's been OK at school, but home life has been hell. Radical mood swings all over the place, from cheerful to violently angry. He isn't violent toward people (yet), but is destructive.

We are in the process of implementing a behavior modification plan, with a list of rules, consequences both positive and negative, detailed chores, etc. Today starts our practice week. We will see the consequences of breaking the rules, but not have to do the consequence tasks (e.g. scrubbing the walls in the kitchen, picking up all the twigs in the back yard, etc.) until next week. We'll officially begin the chores tonight, too. Everyone has specific chores, even Mom and Dad and C. There are also household rules that apply to everyone, like don't leave dishes in the living room. Some rules are age-specific, for example only minor children must ask permission from a parent or the adult in charge to go somewhere. Sproing is currently the only minor child living in the home.

Speaking of living in the home, Light is back at college as of today. Superman and Sproing and Light left home at 8:00 this morning to move her back into the dorm. This begins her senior year. She's got mixed feelings about this. She's glad to be back at school for sure, but this is her last year, and in May, upon graduation, it will be time for her to assume a bunch of adult responsibilities that this time in college has deferred. She plans to go right into graduate school, which delays some of the grown-up responsibilities, but not many.

My school starts on Wednesday. More on that at some vague time in the future.

OK, so I have updated you on a few things. Maybe being back in school will help me feel less unraveled. Eh.

Update on the a/c

I have a new He-ro for today. Superman finally called in a professional. I didn't even meet the guy. He came while I was out running errands. When I got home from the store (with ice, ice cream, freezer pops, etc. ) my he-ro had come and gone, leaving us with a working air conditioner. Well, working for now. We still need a new one. Hopefully this one will hang on for the rest of the interminably long summer.

In our next episode, Java posts a meme*. Tune in next [time period] for the exciting revelations this meme brings forth!

*Unless something else catches my attention and I feel compelled to post about it.

The latest on Adam is looking very good!

This is how Light reported it in her blog:

Today, The Flower (one of her friends) and I went over to the local rehabilitation center and saw Le Batard(Adam). He is WALKING! I had talked to him on the phone and he'd tod me this, so I knew it intellectually, but to see him walking, and (aside from being a bit more irritable and having braces on his neck and torso) back to himself is a whole different thing! That, and he is still able to tickle attack me and make sexual jokes about everyone around him. He is definitely back to normal.

And they tell me he is being discharged from the rehab center tomorrow and will be at HOME! He lives in our neighborhood, so he'll be just around the block by (ok, it is really today....Saturday).

Updateless

Nothing new to post about Adam tonight. Light went back to school today. Adam is hospitalized in that city, also enrolled in college there. Hopefully Light will have access to people who have access to more frequently updated news. I'll let you know when I know something.

Thank you all who are thinking of him, praying for him, concerned about him.

And I told you I couldn't think or compose tonight.
