Briefly, with bullet points

  • OK, I like bullet points.
  • Diva went apeshit on me again today. She's currently spending the night in the psych wing of the emergency department at the hospital, where she will be further evaluated by the staff psychiatrist and the department of mental health in the morning. They will decide what to do with her. We suspect she'll be placed in another psychiatric residential facility. If I feel up to it I'll post more details of the precipitating events of this week. Short story: she attacked me again. Not as bad as last time, but seriously, how bad does it have to be?
  • I'm kinda stressed.
  • Have "entertained" 5 members of the city police department over the last two days in regards to Diva. Four of them came in response to Monday afternoon's call.
  • Having trouble concentrating.
  • Am really tired all of a sudden. It's time for sleep.

The Boy, a brief update:

Superman, Diva, and I went to visit Sproing Wednesday evening. We had a family therapy session from 6:00 to 7:00, then the semi-weekly visiting hour. Therapy went well, I think. Sproing didn't join us until the last 10 minutes or so.

Then we all went into the dining hall for the visit. It lasted maybe five minutes. During therapy we discussed Thanksgiving plans. Ideally he would come home for the day, maybe a couple of days, at Thanksgiving. But he's got to prove he's ready for that responsibility, and his therapist has set the qualifications for meeting that goal. He blew his opportunity the first day, so he isn't coming home for Thanksgiving. That was confirmed for him in therapy, so he went into the visit with a sour attitude. He started complaining about being there, he wants to come home, everyone there picks on him, etc. He was headed into the "you hate me" lane when I said "It's time for us to leave now. You need to go back to your room." Like I said, maybe five minutes.

If you recall, last Wednesday's visit was a disaster. When I talked to his therapist on Thursday she recommended that if he starts with the disrespectful attitude, we should kindly but firmly end the session. And that's what we did. I'm ok with it this time, especially since I was able to see him while in the therapy session. He looks pretty good. I can tell that he is growing. His face is getting a bit longer and thinner, though I wasn't able to assess whether he's gotten any taller. He'll be 12 years old in a couple of months, so this growth is to be expected. His emotional development, as we see, is stuck in idle. It's a process, and he has to get to the point where he's ready to do what needs to be done. Right now I'm just glad he's in a high maintenance facility with professionals to care for him, and NOT here at home for me to deal with. His mental condition is out of my league. Has been for years, frankly.

I think I hope this might be it

I got a call this morning from the social worker at the kids' school. She was calling about Sproing's behavior. Of course. I've been expecting her call. We chatted over the phone for a few minutes and I told her some of the stuff that's been going on. She asked if we had considered placing him in a residential facility, and mentioned a specific one that's in the next county. She has an application form. I told her I'd be there in 15 minutes!!

I went to her office, we chatted for a while. I was (am) so keyed up I can't sit still. And now I can't form coherent sentences, though I did better when I was in her office. She talked to me about options within the legal system. There are actually some good programs available, and having a judge's ruling on some of this stuff would be good. She told me to go to the police station and file an incorrigible child report on both of the kids. Then when they steal something from us, or run away, or any number of things they do already anyway, we can call the police. The third time they're called out here, they take the child away and put him/her in a juvenile evaluation center. Then the state runs a battery of tests on the kids, with results going to the judge, who reviews the results and makes a decision for placement. Because my kids are still young, there's a good chance they'll be placed in a therapeutic environment. The turn-around process on this is shorter than what we've seen for some other programs. I think this is the way we'll go with Sproing. Diva is already in process (a slow one) for another option.

I was so uptight and flittery I had to take my Lorazepam. Now I'm real chill. Gonna go take a nap, I think. Superman recommended it. I had to get Superman from work, because by the time I got out of the school social worker's office, I could barely stand up. Driving was tricky. Thankfully he works down the street from the school. Seriously. You can see the school from the building he works in.

I don't know what else to say, exactly. I don't know what I've said already. I don't know if any of this makes sense. But right now I feel a sense of relief that has me in tears.

Updates as the situation warrants.
