Adam is improving!

This is what I learned today:

12/04/07 update:
They took out Adam's breathing tube today, and he is managing on his own.
It took a little bit for him to find some sound, but he is trying to talk.
Whether it makes sense or not is a different story...
They have also gotten his brace fitted on him

So he's evidently out of the coma. I wonder when that happened. I'm obviously not well connected here. I also don't know if he's still in neuro ICU. I'll ask Light tomorrow.

Good news to hear of Adam's improvement! I am not surprised he's not able to speak yet. Assuming no brain damage that impaired Adam's speech, just the tubes themselves can cause so much pain and discomfort limiting vocalization. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Steven. I really hope there is no brain damage! He is an incredibly smart young man with lots of potential. Of course I hope his mobility isn't compromised, what with broken back bones and all. But IMHO an intact brain is much more important than working legs. Wheelchairs take care of the mobility problems. But is there a wheelchair equivalent for a damaged brain? I'll keep posting updates as I receive them.

Now I'm seeing little images of brains spinning around in wheelchairs. Oi.

I am glad to hear that it sounds like Adam is making progress. The healing process can be so slow and it is hard to take one day at a time. The waiting and being patient was one of the hardest parts of my oldest daughter's run in with bacterial meningitis. Once she left the hospital (after 22 days), it took months of rehab to get her eventualy back to a full recovery. Ultimately, she was written up as one of Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters miracle cases. I will keep Adam and his family in my thoughts and prayers.
