-I want my milk delivered. Who remembers milk delivery? We had an insulated milk box on our front porch, a square cube of approximately 16 inches. I remember being in trouble with my grandmother one Sunday morning. She spanked me (!! it was the softest spank I ever remember, and the only specific spanking I remember. Effective lady, my grandmommie) and sent me out to sit on the milk box. I was 4 years old. We moved from that house a year later and I have never had milk delivery since.
-S gave me his old camera case for my little digital camera. It is made by Samsonite. This little soft-sided case is not the image that immediately comes to mind when I think "Samsonite." Who remembers the Samsonite TV commercial with the gorilla throwing around a suitcase in his cage?
-My darling mother took a picture of my messy room when I was in my early teens. She said she'd save it to show to my boyfriends when I was older, especially anyone I was real serious about. Now I'm 46 years old and have been married for 25 years. My entire house is at least as messy as that room was. If I recall, Mama never showed that picture to Superman. Although the mess is stress inducing to some extent, my wonderful Superman doesn't make a big deal about it. He's not going to leave me because I'm a bad housekeeper. (Damn, he'd have left years ago if that were the case) He stays because he loves me, and I think because I make love to him often. Whatever it is, it works.
-I have an appointment with my therapist this morning. It has been a month since we last met. I want to make sure we meet more frequently. I need her perspective and the questions she asks me.

What is that ice cream delivery service? Something Swan. It might just be a Midwest thing. But they also deliver milk. It's a fancy thing, which is sort of strange. Something that once was customary is now high class.
hmmm- we are slightly on the same wavelength today. do you still have your mother's pic of your messy room. i would love to see that.
i woke up early and watched an old movie and cried like a baby today.
all is right with the world.
I do remember the milk thing, but not at our house. I was always jealous of those who had it delivered.
I remember milk delivery and that Samsonite commercial.
Christ, am I old...
tigeryogiji: so am I, honey, so am I.
Lewis: Little luxuries vs. righteous frugality. A delicate balance.
warrior scout: Yup. It's that kind of day. A good cry is a good thing, baby.
Scott: Yeah, we've got Schwanns delivery out of Greenville (an hour north of here.) I've never looked into it. Today I wish it was just customary, that that was how everyone got milk. I'm old.
At our house they delivered milk, eggs, orange juice. It's harde enough to raise a family of 6 without having to go to the store every damn day.
I still think it's horrifying to pump your own gas - particularly when there isn't someone there to pay. And was my dang windshield while you're at it, kid!
And now we have to check our own groceries as well as bag them. What happened to the checker???? And the bag boy????? Next you'll be making me carry this stuff to the car myself!!!
From where I'm standing, the future sure isn't what it used to be.
bad spelling will kill me.
line 1 should be 'hard' not 'harde'
and line 6 should be 'wash' not 'was'
Dear ol' mum would be horrified if she knew just how little milk I drink. So I guess milk deliveries wouldn't be much use.
Neat post today :)
Superman is a very lucky man ... for many reasons!
Texaco: LOL! I remember the first self-pump station in Orlando when I was growing up. I must have been 10-12 yrs old. It was so strange! Yeah, service is a lost art in many aspects.
Indigo: Thanks! The older we get the less milk we need, really. I think yogurt is probably a healthier way to get dairy. But we're a family of 7, 5 of whom are children or young adults (all under 20 yrs.) We go through a LOT of milk, usually 1-1.5 gallons a day or more. As Texaco said, it's hard enough managing a household this big without having to go to the store for milk every damned day.
Cooper: :-) You know I love you, right?
I remember the glass bottles and the crate. I swear that mild tasted better than what we have today.
