So I went to Biltmore Estate in Asheville. I have wanted to go there for a very long time. I love architecture anyway, and Biltmore is, well, fabulous. The day was comfortably cool up in the mountains.
This first picture shows the mechanism that opens the high windows in the horse stable area. The rod to the left leads to another rod that is turned by a crank. The rods turn, engaging gears that lift the window frame. I was fascinated. I'm easily amused.
But the best part was meeting my blog buddies! We were gathered together thanks to the efforts of Larry (who no longer has a blog), who with his husband Greg came to Asheville for a bit of vacation. Also in attendance were "Joe" and David. Here's David, winner of the Miss Congeniality award.
I had a wonderful time. It was the first time I'd been out for a fun day in a long, long time. I needed it. I need to do that sort of thing more often, really.
And here's a quote I found today.
So convenient a thing it is to be a reasonable creature, since it enables one to find or make a reason for everything one has a mind to do. -- Benjamin Franklin
and so it goes

YES.....we do need to do this more often! It was a wonderful time!
I love that place. Love love love it. And the acres of grounds around it too.
Glad you got out and about!
Always a fun excursion to go to Biltmore, and Asheville as a rule. I've always enjoyed the grounds during the spring and the simple adore the house during the holidays... they take no limits to holiday decorations.
Glad to see some bloggers getting some face time out in the world!
Wow! Looks like a great place!
That wisteria looks very old. Always good to 'get away' from the maddening crowds, so to speak.
It was a wonderful day Java. I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to meet you and David and Joe. You made a good day great.
As for not having a blog anymore... please stand by. I think I may have devised a solution to my problem.
Send me David's phone number. :)
lovely photos! lovely fellows!
I was beginning to wonder if it ever happened! So glad you posted about it.
I am so envious that you all met, and at such a wonderful place as Biltmore. I've been once, and it was not enough. Very cool!
