I needed some new socks. The old ones are stretched out around the ankle and thinning on the bottom. So I bought myself two packages of three pairs of socks. 2x3=6. Six pairs of socks, two pairs of each trim color. I got them specifically to bring on my trip. I washed them before I packed. I put all the socks, 12 individual socks, into one load in the washing machine. There were other items of my clothing in that load, but I made sure it was all my stuff or Superman's stuff. In that load there were no other random pieces of clothing belonging to any other member of the household.
I myself moved the load from the washer to the dryer. It's a short transfer: 26 inches at the most. And I checked the washer for any remaining items before I started the dryer. I removed the load from the dryer, placed it in a basket, and carried the basket to my room. All by myself.
Even with all that personal attention, one of the socks got lost. When I folded the laundry, only 11 individual socks were there. Why? What happened? I tried so hard!
My Dear Darling Diva brought me the 12th sock later in the afternoon. I don't know where she found it, but it was somewhere in the laundry room. I had 6 full pairs of socks when I left home. As far as I know I still have 6 full pairs of socks, only 4 of them are dirty now. I'm almost afraid to surrender them to the washer and dryer now.
