To say he is enthralled may be an understatement. The man appreciates good food. He has a way with words, too. This is what he told me when he came home from the store today.
"This is the chocolate they serve in the Elysian Fields."
"Nectar and Ambrosia aspire to taste this good." from the website:
Excellence Chili
This combination of fine dark chocolate with exquisite chili pepper delivers an absolutely unique taste experience. When savoring this new creation, chocolate connoisseurs will experience how the initial mild, delicate flavor of cocoa gradually gives way to a full-bodied but harmoniously spicy touch. Seductively piquant!
I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but Superman is a chili-head. He loves the heat, the hotter the better. Me, not so much. My enjoyment of the hot spicy stuff comes from watching him sweat when he eats it, and making fun of him. Seriously, people, the man likes to put hot sauce on his ice cream!! Puh-leeeeze.

This afternoon he went out to get some more gummy worms for Diva*. I asked him if he'd get a box of dark chocolate covered cherries for me, please.

That's one of my holiday indulgences.
When he came back he was glowing, waxing rhapsodic about this chocolate bar he'd found. He offered me a taste! Isn't that nice? I politely declined.
Look at this picture. Doesn't it look seductive? Perhaps subliminally sexy? Whatever it is about this chocolate, Superman is in love.

*Diva seems to prefer the gummy worms to the bears for some reason. She is recovering well. Thank you, all of you who have expressed well-wishes for her recovery. Her throat is still quite uncomfortable, but it feels much better than it did Friday. She's trying to talk although she shouldn't. Her volume is low, and that's a new experience for all of us. I like it. I wonder if it's possible to lower the volume on Sproing with anything short of surgery.

Well, more power to Superman for having the courage to try such things! Glad Diva's recovering well.
I saw this chili/chocolate in the grocery store yesterday, and it reminded me of that wonderful film Chocolat, where the unmarried mother creates all kinds of exotic chocolates by adding unusual ingredients like chilis. Now I've got to try this!
Mark :-)
I have learned to like spicy food, unfortunately spicy food doesn't like me. I get this from my mom. And everyday it seems there is some food that I can no longer eat because it doesn't like me.
I've always loved cooking with chocolate... ancient asians used cocoa as a spice and that was a tough one for me to come to grips with. However, once I had used cocoa and chocolate a few times in recipes... the game was on!

I had that chocolate as soon as I saw it in the store..it is wonderful...Superman has great taste!
I'm going to look for it. I love dark chocolate with peppercorns which I found in a specialty food store.
I'm with you, Java. Chocolate and peppers?
Oh, and when you said that it looked seductive on the box and I saw the pepper I swear to god the word 'phallic' didn't pop into my head. Honest.
Oh, and that post above is actually me - someone isn't good about signing out of google when he's done... But FWIW, he just walked by and I told him about the chocolate and pepper candy bar and he says it sounds great.
Figures.
I have seen that candy before...but never the Chili version! I'm definitely going to be on the hunt for it. Reminds me of my Black Bean and Espresso Chili that I make sometimes.
I've been meaning to try a bit of that chili chocolate. Very intriguing. Of course, your tastes are more classic, with the cherries.
And Angel's is spot on, too: I've always preferred the softer texture of the worms vs. the bears, although the bears are definitely cuter...and easier to fling at people.
Couple of thoughts
Try Salsa Express for some Xmas ideas
Growing peppers is easy and fun. Go to Seed Savers in Iowa for sensational looking and tasting chilies.
