Quote of the day

Today's Inspirational Quote:

"There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life."
-- John Lennon

I see how this is working in my life right now. My life is currently dominated by fear (see all posts labeled "Diva") and my creative production is down to diddly. Makes me mad.

I have much to say about the current Diva situation. I'm working on a post about what has transpired with regards to her recent activities. So far all the work has happened in my head. I hope to get something up here by the end of today. Wish me luck.

Procrastination and possibly interesting stuff

I am SO procrastinating right now. There's a report due tomorrow morning and a big exam Thursday that I MUST study for beginning yesterday. But I just had to show you these things, because I must. That's all.

Here's the big kitty, Samhain. He sat down on my computer as I was booting up yesterday. I love that look he's giving me. It's his standard look. He's one of those cats who has not forgotten that cats have been worshiped as gods.
I saw this note on Twitch's door this evening. The cats love his room, and have been making a mess of his stuff recently.
It says "I don't care if you're the Pope, if you let any of the cats or any/all of your person into this room, I'll see to it that you'll be eating and breathing through a series of tubes for the rest of your meaningless life. (However long that may be)"

Superman has been building beds for the two younger kidlets. They had an interesting bunk arrangement when they shared this room, but since C and S moved out they've each gotten their own room. Superman had to disassemble the big bunk contraption and has spent this past weekend putting legs on the platforms for the kids' mattresses.
This is the underside of Diva's bed as Superman is putting on the legs. The walls in that room are in a sad state. I began to prime them nearly a year ago and didn't get very far. Maybe after this school term is over I'll get back in there and finish up. Diva has some wild ideas about color for that room. Her color selection changes frequently, so we shall see what actually happens when it happens.
He's about to drill a really deep hole so he can put a long screw through the wood to connect the leg pieces. The man has tools. It's exciting.
I took the picture above just because I like being that close to him. Did I mention that Tuesday is our 26th wedding anniversary? I'm really glad I married this man.
This is what Diva has done with her bed now. All her favorite critters are lined up on her "new" bed.

This shot shows how high off the floor the bed is. She can store all manner of things under the bed and they will hopefully be fairly easy to access.
And here's a look at Sproing's new bed frame. That's Diva being Diva-licious on the bed. The walls in this room were painted by Light, as it used to be her room.
Here's the boy being all cool and shit on his new bed. He really likes it. It was SO cute, last night Superman went in to tuck him in and Sproing said "Thanks, Dad, for building my bed. I really like it." Awwwwww!
Sproing spent most of the day yesterday being an absolute pain in the ass. The more annoying he is, the more love he needs, and the harder it is to give him that love and acceptance. Building him a bed is one of those things that speaks his love language. So for a day or two he will feel loved. Then he'll forget that feeling and find something else about his life here with this family that sucks out loud and is evidence of the failure of the universe to meet his every whim.

Puberty sucks.

OK, I'm going to post this then get to work on my report. I'll let you know how it goes after the presentation tomorrow (Tuesday).

I am blessed

An old friend of mine sent one of those "pass it on" emails to me. I never pass these things on, especially if they implore me not to break the chain. Occasionally I will forward something I find particularly funny. But the message I got today was sappy with strong religious/political overtones and I deleted it. However, out of morbid curiosity I read the reward/warning message at the end of the propaganda.
Pass it on to everyone and pray. Something good will happen to you tonight at 11:11 PM. This is not a joke. Someone will either call you or will talk to you online and say that they love you.

Right. The thing is, I have people in my life who tell me they love me all the time. The people I live with, even the frustrating ones, tell me regularly that they love me. In the past 24 hours I have received personal emails, comments, and chat messages from a lot of different people, almost every one expressing love to me. Ironically, this old friend who forwarded this bit of tripe didn't add a personal comment at all, much less an expression of love or friendship. If I were really jaded I'd mention that she is a Christian, but I may be above that. Or not.

I am truly blessed. Blessed with a loving family and so many far-flung friends who have touched my life and my heart with love. To those of you; you know who you are - thank you.

Do you remember? Random brain firings

-I want my milk delivered. Who remembers milk delivery? We had an insulated milk box on our front porch, a square cube of approximately 16 inches. I remember being in trouble with my grandmother one Sunday morning. She spanked me (!! it was the softest spank I ever remember, and the only specific spanking I remember. Effective lady, my grandmommie) and sent me out to sit on the milk box. I was 4 years old. We moved from that house a year later and I have never had milk delivery since.

-S gave me his old camera case for my little digital camera. It is made by Samsonite. This little soft-sided case is not the image that immediately comes to mind when I think "Samsonite." Who remembers the Samsonite TV commercial with the gorilla throwing around a suitcase in his cage?

-My darling mother took a picture of my messy room when I was in my early teens. She said she'd save it to show to my boyfriends when I was older, especially anyone I was real serious about. Now I'm 46 years old and have been married for 25 years. My entire house is at least as messy as that room was. If I recall, Mama never showed that picture to Superman. Although the mess is stress inducing to some extent, my wonderful Superman doesn't make a big deal about it. He's not going to leave me because I'm a bad housekeeper. (Damn, he'd have left years ago if that were the case) He stays because he loves me, and I think because I make love to him often. Whatever it is, it works.

-I have an appointment with my therapist this morning. It has been a month since we last met. I want to make sure we meet more frequently. I need her perspective and the questions she asks me.

Cooper's got a boyfriend, neener neener neener

I love a good love story. There is nothing quite as thrilling. And Cooper expresses the thrill so well! Congratulations, fella's. Here's to a long fulfilling relationship.
